Zimmerman Has Four Hits, But BW Baseball Team Loses at OWU, 7-4

DELAWARE, Ohio – Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference pitcher/ outfielder Mark Zimmerman (Akron/ Green) was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, but the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team lost at host Ohio Wesleyan University, 7-4, at Littick Field.

BW (5-9) took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. The Battling Bishops (8-2) tied it at 2-2 with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. OWU granbbed a 5-2 lead with a three-run bottom of the fourth. BW cut the Bishop lead to 5-3 with a run in the top of the fifth. The Yellow Jackets closed to 5-4 with another run in the seventh. OWU increased its lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the frame with two runs. That closed the scoring.

At the plate, BW was outhit, 13-6. Zimmerman was 4-for-4 with one run scored, two doubles, two runs batted-in (RBI) and two stolen bases. He was the only BW player to have a multi-hit game.

On the mound, freshman right-hander Brandon Lekan (Strongsville) made his fourth appearance this season, including his second start, and pitched three and two-third innings. He took the loss to fall to 0-2 this season. Sophomore lefty Evan Lovick (Mentor) relieved Lekan and pitched one and one-third innings, allowed two hits and no runs. Freshman Danny Cody (Brecksville/ Becksville-Broadview Heights) entered the game in the sixth and pitched one and one-third innings, allowed four hits and two runs (one earned). He was relieved by senior Tom Loeffler (Shaker Heights) who pitched one inning and allowed a hit and no runs. He was replaced by junior Logan Heffernan (Lebanon) who pitched the final two-thirds of an inning.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 25 when they open OAC play at Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in a doubleheader. The first game at Schweikert Field begins at 1 p.m. After playing a single, non-conference game at Allegheny (Pa.) College next Wednesday, March 30, BW opens its 2016 home schedule against Otterbein University in an OAC twinbill at Fisher Field on Saturday, April 2. The first game begins at 1 p.m.

Fans are reminded that the official dedication ceremony for Fisher Field will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 12 noon and prior to BW's Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader versus Capital University. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
