Women’s Tennis Wins First Match of Season, Shuts Out Berea (Ky.)

CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team won its first match of the season as it shutout Berea (Ky.) College in a non-conference match by a final score of 9-0 at the Medical Mutual Tennis Center on the campus of Cleveland State

BW (1-2) won all three doubles, and all six singles matches.   Berea fell to 0-2 on the season.

Doubles

  • Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC Gabriela Heideman (Doylestown/Wadsworth) and senior Academic All-OAC Kierstyn Yates (Grafton/Midview) defeated Angela Chen and Odreille Uwimana at won first doubles by a score of 8-2
  • Junior Academic All-OAC Emma Trost (Norwalk) and freshman Colleen Andersen (Ashtabula/St. John) defeated Ti Meh and Diliara Galiera at second doubles by a score of 8-2
  • Freshmen Olivia Koutouras (Avon Lake) and Aniya Qualls (Elyria/Midview) defeated  Sophia Mercer and CJ Verbeck at third doubles by a score of 8-1 

Singles

  • Yates defeated Chen at first singles by a score of 8-0
  • Anderson defeated Uwimana at second singles by a score of 8-0
  • Koutouras defeated Meh at third singles by a score of 8-1
  • Trost defeated Galiera at fourth singles by a score of 8-0
  • Sophomore Gillian Brown (Brunswick) defeated Mercer at fifth singles by a score of 8-2
  • Freshman Samantha Thielen (Toledo/Sylvania/Northview) defeated Anaiah Burton at sixth singles by a score of 8-2

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Monday, March 4 when they travel to Orlando, Florida for their first of five spring break non-conference matches when they take on Trine (Ind.) University at the Fort Gatlin Tennis Center at 6:30 p.m.
