Women's Tennis Knocks Off Muskingum, Moves to 2-0

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team remained perfect on the season as it defeated Muskingum University in Ohio Athletic Conference match by a final score of 8-1 on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

BW (2-0, 2-0 OAC) won all three doubles matches to take the ealry 3-0 lead. senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Ashtyn Morris (Salem) and freshman Gabriela Heideman (Doylestown/Wadsworth) earned the win at No. 1 doubles by a score of 8-1.  Senior Academic All-OAC selection Emma Hubbard (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon High School) and sophomore Lizzy Cole (Shaker Heights) combined to pull off an 8-0 victory in the No. 2 doubles match. Freshman Juliet Penrod (Macedonia/Nordonia) and sophomore Gina Upholzer (Strongsville) completed the doubles sweep by securing the No. 3 match by a score of 8-3.

The Yellow Jackets won five of six singles. Morris and Heideman captured the No. 1 and No. 2 matches with identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Kierstyn Yates (Grafton/Midview) took No. 3 singles with identical scores of 6-1.  Freshman Kerrigan Ponsart (Cleveland/Saint Joseph Academy) earned the victory in No. 4 singles with a score of 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Kailin Breedlove (Parma) secured the No. 5 contest with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

BW returns to action on Wednesday, April 14 when it travels to Ada for an OAC match against Ohio Northern University on the ONU Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.
