Women's Tennis Aces Mount Union in Season Opener

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team opened the 2021 season in impressive fashion as it shut out the University of Mount Union in an Ohio Athletic Conference match by a final score of 9-0 on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.

BW (1-0, 1-0 OAC) started doubles action with an 8-4 victory from the tandem of freshmanGabriela Heideman (Doylestown/Wadsworth) and freshman Kerrigan Ponsart (Cleveland/Saint Joseph Academy) in the No. 2 doubles match. Freshman Kierstyn Yates (Grafton/Midview) and sophomore Gina Upholzer followed with an 8-6 victory in the No. 3 doubles match. The Yellow Jackets completed the sweep when senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Ashtyn Morris (Salem) and senior Jayde Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) won at No. 1 doubles by a score 8-7 and 7-2 in the tiebreaker.

In the singles competition, sophomore Lizzy Cole (Shaker Heights) began the action with a 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Kailin Breedlove followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Heideman took No. 3 singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Robinson won at No. 2 singles by scores of 6-4 and 6-0. Morris captured No. singles by identical scores of 6-1.  Senio Academic All-OAC performer Emma Hubbard (Ortonville, Mich./Brandon High School) closed out the match at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 10 when it hosts an OAC match against Muskingum University at 1 p.m.
