Women’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short Against Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup against Ohio Northern University by a final score of 17-15.

BW (0-5, 0-5 OAC) was led by freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) who scored four goals. Senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Revere), junior midfielder Sid Chamberlin (Wooster), and sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) who each added three goals. Ray also added two assists. 

Ohio Northern (3-3, 3-3 OAC) was led by freshman attacker Sydney Kilgore, who scored seven goals and added three goals. Senior Academic All-OAC midfielder Annie McArn and freshman midfielder Noel Orioli each added three goals and one assist each. Sophomore midfielder Meredith Miller added two goals. 

The Yellow Jackets attack got going early with Loukas hitting the back of the cage with 25:20 left in the half. The Polar Bears got things going with a 7-0 that was capped off by Miller, who scored her second goal of the run. BW was able to get back on track when sophomore midfielder Hradek rifled one into the back of the net. The Yellow Jacket offense continued the attack when Ray found the back of the cage. The Ohio Northern attack was able to recover when Kilgore hit the back of the cage with 10:35 remaining in the half. BW got a quick response by O'Neill when she ripped one into the back of the net. The Polar Bears came right back with McArn scoring the goal with 5:02 remaining in the half. The Yellow Jackets ended the scoring in the half with Hradek finding the back of net on a free position shot. The BW goal put the halftime score at 9-5. 

The second half scoring was started by Ohio Northern when freshman midfielder Noel Orioli found the back of the net with 23:55 remaining in the game. The Yellow Jackets came right back with Chamberlin scoring the goal with 23:34 remaining. The back and forth continued with Polar Bears responding. They went on a 2-0 run that was started and finished off by Kilgore. The BW offense continued the action with Loukas hitting the back of the cage with 21:00 remaining. The action continued with sophomore midfielder Amanda Wells putting Ohio Northern up 13-7. The Yellow Jacket attack kept the pressure on when Hradek rifled one into the back of the net. The Polar Bear attack continued to respond, this time with a 2-0 run that was capped off by McArn. BW was not done yet getting their own 2-0 run, that was finished off by Ray with 12:21 remaining. Ohio Northern expanded their lead to 16-10 with 9:57 remaining, when Kilgore found the back of the net. BW as not done as they went on a 4-0 run that was capped off by Ray with 5:59 remaining. The Polar Bears got back on the board when Kilgore hit the back of the net on a man down goal with 1:46 remaining. The Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring on the night when Chamberlin scored the last goal.

In the cage, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Towawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) had 11 saves on the 28 shots that she faced.

BW will be back in action Saturday, March 17 when they travel to Heidelberg University in an OAC matchup at 7:00 p.m.
