Women's Lacrosse Falls to Crosstown Rival John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup to crosstown rival John Carroll University by a final score of 15-5 inside George Finnie Stadium on the Tressel Field.

BW (1-10, 1-10 OAC) was led by freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) who scored two goals and added an assist. Three other Yellow Jackets scored a goal each. 

John Carroll (12-0, 12-0 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC and All-Academic OAC attacker Colleen Grombala who scored six goals. Senior midfielder Carly Ross and sophomore midfielder Kendall Gessner added two goals each.

The Blue Streaks offense came out firing, starting the game on a 3-0 which was capped off by a goal from junior attacker/ midfielder Jenna Ginsberg. The Yellow Jackets offense was able to respond when Loukas ripped one past the keeper with 18:22 remaining in the half.  John Carroll got their own response with a man-up goal coming by Gessner to give the Blue Streaks a 4-1 lead. The BW attack kept the pressure when sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/ Olmsted Falls) found the back of the cage. The John Carroll attack came back with a 4-0 run with Ross and Grombala scoring 2 goals each. BW ending the scoring in the half with a goal by senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Revere) to trim the Blue Streak lead to 8-3. 

The Blue Streak offense started off the second half strong opening the half on a 6-0 run saw the John Carroll lead expand to 14-3. The run was led by Grombala who scored three of the six goals. The Yellow Jackets ended the run with a goal from freshman defender/ attacker Avri DeBevoise (Avon Lake) with 12:18 remaining in the game. The Blue Streaks added one last goal with a goal coming by Gessner with 11:00 remaining in the game. BW ended the scoring with one last goal coming by the way of Loukas to trim the John Carroll lead to 15-5. 

In the cage, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) recorded 15 saves on the 30 shots she faced.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, April 10 when they travel to New Concord to take on Muskingum University in an OAC matchup at 1:00 p.m.
