Women’s Lacrosse Drops OAC Game to Marietta

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team drops an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup to Marietta College by a final score of 16-12 inside George Finnie Stadium on the Tressel Field.

BW (1-9, 1-9 OAC) was led by senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Revere) who scored five goals. Sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) added a career-best four goals and one assist for a career-best five points. Freshman attacker Avri DeBevoise (Avon Lake) scored two goals for the Yellow Jackets. 

Marietta (5-4, 5-4 OAC) was led by sophomore attacker Natalie Cocco who scored six goals. Senior midfielder Shannon Doyle added four goals. Junior midfielder Rachel Sivie, sophomore attacker Mackenzie Dyott, and freshman midfielder Hope Adams scored two goals each. Adams also added two assists. 

The BW attack came out firing, scoring their first goal 58 seconds into the game. The goal came by the way of Ray who rifled one past the keeper. The Pioneers came back with a 3-0 run with all the goals being scored by Cocco. The Yellow Jackets were able to end the run when Hradek hit the back of the net with 22:02 left in the first half. Marietta got their own response when Doyle sent one into the back of the cage. However, BW came back holding the Pioneers scoreless over the last 17:20 of the half while adding three goals. The run was capped off by DeBevoise who gave the Yellow Jackets a 5-4 lead into in the half.

Marietta kicked off the second half going on a 5-0 run that was led by Doyle who scored the first three of the five goals. Cocco added the last two goals which gave Marietta the 9-5 lead with 24:56 remaining. BW responded with 23:12 remaining with a goal coming by the way of Hradek. The Pioneers responding with a Dyott goal to increase their lead back to four goals. The Yellow Jackets continued the back and forth scoring with a Hradek goal that came at 22:04 remaining. Marietta went on a 3-0 run that capped off by Sivie which expanded their lead to 13-7. BW was able to stop the Pioneers run when Ray scored on a man-up goal with 13:58 remaining. The Marietta attack kept the pressure on with another 2-0 run that was capped off by Sivie on a free-position goal. The Yellow Jackets attack was able to trim into the Pioneers lead with a 3-0 run that saw junior midfielder Sid Chamberlin (Wooster) hit the back of the cage. Marietta got one last goal to get when Adams sent her shot home. BW finished up the scoring with a Ray free position shot at 2:40 remaining in the quarter.

In the cage, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) recorded 13 saves on the 29 shots she faced.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. when they host crosstown rival John Carroll in an OAC matchup.
