Women’s Lacrosse Earns First Win of Season

Tiffin, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team earned its first victory of the season as it defeated Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference by final score of 14-2 inside Hoernemann Stadium.  

The Yellow Jackets (1-5, 1-5 OAC) were led by sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) and senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls/Richfield Revere) with three goals each. Two goals each were contributed by senior attacker Alexis O'Neill (Westlake), junior midfielder Sid Chamberlin (Wooster), freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, New York/Eastchester) and freshman attacker Tara Martin (Brunswick). Chamberlin also added two assists.  

Heidelberg (0-7, 0-7 OAC) was led by junior midfielder Macy Zachary and senior midfielder Angela Lulejin who put up one goal each.  

The Yellow Jackets started off the first half fast when Ray hit the back of the net only four minutes into the match. The Student Princes opened up their attack when Kelly Spence took the first shot of the evening, which was blocked. At the 23:33 mark, Martin scored her first goal of the season on a free position shot. Chamberlin came through with the third goal of the game when BW was awarded another free position shot at the 22:42 mark. The Yellow Jackets extended their scoring streak throughout the half with two goals from Hradek, and a goal each from Loukas, Ray, and O'Neill. Martin buried one in the back of the net at the 5:27 mark to wrap up the half with a score of 9-0.  

It took the Yellow Jackets only one minute to score their first goal of the second half when Chamberlin hit the back of the net at 28:55. BW's scoring streak continued when Loukas scored at the 26:33 mark. The Student Prince's got on the board at the 16:35 mark with a goal from Macy Zachary on a free position shot. The Yellow Jackets responded with another goal from Ray assisted by Chamberlin. Back and forth shots from both sides went on for five minutes until Heidelberg's Angela Lulejin scored at the 7:40 mark. The Yellow Jacket's ended the evening on a 2-0 run with goals from O'Neill and Hradek leaving the score 14-2.  

In the goal for the Yellow Jackets, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, New York/Sweet Home) had seven saves out of a total nine shots on goal from Heidelberg.  

BW returns to action on Saturday, March 20 when it travels to Bexley for an OAC game against Capital University inside Bernlohr Stadium at 1 p.m.
