Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Marietta College in OAC Game

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team fell to  Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 8-10 on Marietta Field. 

BW (0-4, 0-4 OAC) was led by senior attacker Alexis O'Neill (Westlake), sophomore midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) and freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, New York/Eastchester) as the trio each scored two goals. Senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls, Richfield Revere) and freshman defender Avri DeBevoise (Avon Lake) contributed a goal apiece.

Marietta (2-2, 2-2 OAC) was led by senior midfielder Shannon Doyle with a game-best three goals Sophomore attackers Lindy Brobeck and Mackenzie Dyott chipped in with two goals each 

The first half started off with a goal from the Pioneers' Dyott in the first 10 seconds. The Yellow Jackets quickly responded a minute later with a goal from Ray. BW then broke the 1-1 tie with a goal from Hradek at the 27:57 mark. Marietta responded with a 3-0 run to push the lead to 4-1 on a free position goal from Doyle at 19:19. The game went scoreless for almost 10 minutes ending when the Yellow Jackets found the back of the net on a goal from Loukas at the 10:06 mark. BW scored again when DeBevoise found the back of the cage off the assist from sophomore defender Taylor Beretich (Hutto, Texas/Pickerington North) to tie up the score at 4-4. The Yellow Jackets then took the lead with a goal from Hradek with 5:19 left to give them the 5-4 lead at halftime.  

The Pioneers tied the game at 5-5 just 38 seconds into the second half when junior midfielder Rachel Sivie scored. Marietta then scored again at the 24:54 mark to regain the lead at 6-5 off the goal from freshman midfielder Hope Adams. The Yellow Jackets responded to tie the game backup at 6-6 on the tally from Alexis O'Neill at 23:52. The Pioneers took back the lead on the score from Shannon Doyle at the 19:13 mark.  BW tied the game for the final time at 7-7 when O'Neill scored her second goal of the free position at 14:32. Marietta put the game away with three unanswered goals with the last coming by Dyott at the 6:09 mark.  The Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring at 10-8 when Loukas found the back of the net at 3:32.  

In the cage for BW, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) faced a total of 17 shots on goal and recorded seven saves.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, March 10 when they host and OAC game against Ohio Northern University on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.  Wednesday's game will be the first time that BW will welcome fans in 2021.
