Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team fell 22-10 to Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game inside Bernlohr Stadium.

BW (1-6, 1-6 OAC) was led by senior midfielder Maddie Ray (Cuyahoga Falls / Richfield Revere) who scored three goals on the afternoon. Freshman midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./ Eastchester) and senior attacker Alexis O'Neill (Westlake) each contributed two goals on the afternoon. Loukas also added one assist on the day.

Capital (6-1, 5-1 OAC) was led by junior attacker Luci Kanowsky, who scored eight goal. All OAC midfielders Kat Walton and Brooke Delara, along with All OAC attacker Dana Stover scored three goals each. Delara added six assists while Walton added three. Two other Crusaders combined for the other five goals. 

Capital began the game with two goals before the Yellow Jackets got on the board with a shot from Avri DeBevoise (Avon Lake). The Crusaders responded when Kanowsky converted her first goal of the day, before a quick answer from Ray. After a 2-0 Capital run, BW responded with Ray scoring two quick goals of her own to cut the Crusaders lead to 5-4. Kanowsky and Delara would score to extend the Crusaders lead back to three with 11:14 left in the half. The Yellow Jackets responded with freshman attacker Tara Martin (Brunswick) hitting the back of the cage. Capital responded once again with Stover scoring a goal. BW kept the pressure on with Loukas rifling one past the goalkeeper. The Crusaders would score when Kanowsky hit the back of the net with 1:59 left to take a 10-7 lead. Right before the half, Loukas cut the Capital lead to 10-8 when she found the back of the cage with two seconds left on the clock. 

The Crusader's defensive intensity increased in the second half as they held the Yellow Jackets to two goals on seven shot attempts. Offensively, the Crusaders exploded for twelve second-half goals including a 10-0 run to the start the half. Kanowsky started right where she left off, scoring at the 29:13 mark in the second half on her way to five second-half goals. BW's second-half goals came with 7:05 left in the game by Sid Chamberlin (Wooster) and with 4:06 left on the clock by O'Neill converting her second goal of the day. 

In the cage for BW, senior All-OAC goalkeeper Ashleigh Hildreth (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) faced a total of 48 shots on goal and recorded seventeen saves.

BW returns to action on Saturday, March 27th when they take on Otterbein University at 5:00 p.m. in the second game of an OAC doubleheader on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.
