Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Ohio Wesleyan in Non-Conference Finale

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team concluded the non-conference portion of its 2015-16 schedule with a 76-44 victory against Ohio Wesleyan University in the Branch Rickey Arena.

BW (8-4), who went 4-3 in non-conference play, including a 2-1 mark against North Coast Athletic Conference opponents, had three players score in double figures led by freshman guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) as she scored a career-high tying 15 points and grabbed a career-best six rebounds.  Sophomore guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) tallied 13 points while senior forward Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) contributed a season-high 11 points.   Junior forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Ohio Wesleyan (1-11), who went 0-4 against Ohio Athletic Conference opponents, had two players score in double digits led Megan Kuether with a game-best 18 points.  Taylor Dickson contributed 11 points.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 10-2 run when Fecht knocked down a three-pointer at the 3:59 mark.  The Battling Bishops stormed back with a 7-0 run to cut the lead down to 10-9 on a layup by Rylie Pittard at 2:01.   BW closed out the stanza on an 8-4 run capped off by a triple from Munro with 23 seconds left.  The Yellow Jackets led 18-13 after the first.

BW held Ohio Wesleyan to just xx points in the second period.  The Yellow Jackets used a 17-3 run in the first six minutes to extend its lead to 35-16 on a layup by Munro.  The Battling Bishops converted its only baskets of the quarter on a three-pointer at the 9:30 mark and a layup at 1:59.  BW led 40-18 at the intermission. 

The Yellow Jackets controlled the third quarter as it allowed only 10 Ohio Wesleyan points.   BW went on an 18-4 run to take a 58-22 lead on a pair of free throws by Fecht at the 3:37 mark.  The Battling Bishops outscored the Yellow Jackets 6-3 down the stretch but trailed 61-28 after three periods of play.

Ohio Wesleyan scored its most points of any quarter in the fourth stanza as it outscored BW by a margin of 16-15.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 9 when they host an OAC game against Capital University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 3 p.m.
