Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight with Victory against Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Junior forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) recorded her third career double-double as she scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead three Yellow Jackets in double figures as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team won its third straight Ohio Athletic Conference game,70-56, against Muskingum University on Performance Court inside the Muskingum Recreation Center.

In addition to Lemmon for BW (5-2, 3-0 OAC), senior All-OAC forward Sydney Clark (Parma/ Lake Ridge Academy) and sophomore guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) each had 11 points. Muskingum (1-5, 0-3 OAC) was led by junior forward Jasmine Goings with 10 points. The Yellow Jackets have now won 12 straight against the Fighting Muskies.

In the first quarter, BW jumped out to a 10-0 lead at 6:53 when freshman forward Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center/ Olentangy) canned a jumper. After BW gained a 13-2 lead, the Fighting Muskies ran off 10 straight points to close their deficit to 13-12. The game was tied at 15-15 before Clark canned a running three-pointer from the right wing as time expired to give BW an 18-15 lead.

In the second quarter, the Yellow Jackets outscored Muskingum 13-3 in the first 5:17 to build its largest lead at that point of 31-18 at 4:43 when freshman guard Alex Starr (Millersburg/West Holmes) made a three-pointer. BW's biggest first half advantage was 15 points at 33-18 at 3:59 when freshman forward Courtnay Cruise (Wooster/Triway) made a jump shot. The Yellow Jackets led 35-27 at halftime.

In the third quarter, BW outscored Muskingum 15-6 in the first four minutes to build its biggest lead at 50-33 when Clark made a layup in transition at 4:54.  The lead grew to 21 at 54-33 when freshman forward Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/ Davidson) made a jumper at 3:27. The Yellow Jackets led 60-37 after three periods.

In the fourth quarter, the largest lead of the game came at 9:10 when Womeldorf made one of two foul shots for a 61-37 advantage. The closest the Fighting Muskies would get to BW was 15 points at 61-46 with 6:16 left in the game.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, December 16 when they host an OAC game against Marietta College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
