Women's Basketball Lose at Mount Union, 67-57, in OAC Title Game

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) scored 21 points, but the fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team lost at OAC-rival second-seeded University of Mount Union, 67-57, in the 2016 OAC Tournament Championship Game in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

With its win, the Mt. Union (20-7) advances to the 2016 NCAA Division III National Tournament which begins next weekend. BW ends its season at 17-11.

In addition to Colombo for BW, junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Sydney Clark (Parma/ Lake Ridge Academy) scored 10 points and junior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Louisville) scored seven points and had a game-high 12 rebounds. The Purple Raiders were led by senior guard Annie Bova's game-high 24 points. Colombo and Clark were named to the OAC Tournament all-tournament team.

In the first quarter, BW grabbed a quick 2-0 lead but Mt. Union scored 12 straight points to lead 12-2 at 3:49. BW came right back with nine consecutive points to close to 12-11 at 1:00 when senior guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/ Lexington) made a layup, was fouled and made the foul shot to complete a three-point play. The Purple Raiders made a three-pointer and led 15-11 after one stanza.

In the second quarter, the Mt. Union lead grew to 11 points on two separate occasions with the last at 27-16 at 4:47. BW got as close as 27-22 at 3:49 following back-to-back three-pointers by senior guard Erin Allen (Girard, Pa./ Girard) at 4:17 and senior Academic All-OAC guard Ally Dehart (Beaver, Pa./ Beaver) but the Raiders outscored the Jackets 8-4 to lead 35-26 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Mt. Union built its lead back to double-digits at 37-26 at 9:14 before BW scored eight straight points, including two triples by Colombo to cut the Purple Raider lead to 37-34 at 8:00. After a Mt. Union foul shot made it 38-34 at 7:34, Colombo canned another trey at 7:02 to make it 38-37. But Mt. Union went on a 12-2 run to close the third and lead 50-39..

In the fourth quarter, Mt. Union's lead grew to a game-high 13 at 52-39 at 8:57 before the Yellow Jackets scored eight straight to cut the Raider lead to 52-47 at 5:37 when Munro scored, was fouled and made her free throw. BW also trailed 60-55 with 3:01 left when Lemmon scored, was fouled and made her foul shot, but that was as close as the Yellow Jackets would get to the Purple Raiders.
