Yellow Jacket Softball Splits on Day Five of Tucson Invitational

TUSCON, Ariz.  – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a pair of games on the fifth day of the annual Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park.

The Yellow Jackets (4-6) posted their first shutout of the season as it defeated Crown (Minn.) College by a final score of 14-0 in five innings but fell to NAIA Aquinas (Mich.) College by a score of 3-0

Against Crown, BW scored 14 runs on 18 hits and only allowed one hit. The Yellow Jackets scored four runs in the second innings, seven in the third and three in the fourth. 

BW was led by freshman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) as she went a career-best 4-for-4 with three runs batted in and two runs scored.  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference leftfielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) and freshman designated player Alex Miller (Akron/Coventry) each went 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Junior first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored.  Sophomore second baseman Angelina Ciraci (Bolivar/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) went 2-for-2.  Six Yellow Jackets provided a hit each.

On the mound, BW used three pitchers as senior All-OAC pitcher Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) started the game and picked up the win as she pitched two scoreless innings and did not allow a hit with two strikeouts.  Freshman Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/Perkins) pitched two innings and did not allow a run on one hit with two strikeouts.   Freshman Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched the fifth inning and did not allow a run or hit with two strikeouts.

Against Aquinas, the Yellow Jackets were held scoreless for the second time this season as they had three base hits.   Sophomore rightfielder Alison Fiorucci (Seven Hills/Holy Name), junior All-OAC second baseman Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) and Miller had the BW base knocks.

On the mound, Murray pitched the entire game and allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

The Yellow Jackets close out its spring break trip at the Tucson Invitational with games against NAIA Valley City State (S.D.) University and No. 6 nationally ranked Central (Iowa) College at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.   Game Times are listed in Eastern Standard Time.
