BW Softball Gets Another Split on Day 2 of Tucson Invitational

TUSCON, Ariz. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team continued its spring break trip by splitting a pair of games on day two of the annual Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park.
The Yellow Jackets (2-2) opened day two with a 6-4 victory against Alfred (N.Y.) University but fell to Dickinson (Pa.) College in the second game by a final of 4-3.
Against the Saxons, BW took an early lead of 1-0 after the first inning and in the top of the third inning junior first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon) belted her first career-home run to push the lead to 3-0. Alfred would score all four of its runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 advantage. The Yellow Jackets tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning and scored two runs in the seventh to secure the win.
The BW offense scored six runs on 11 hits and was led by Brua as she went 1-for-1 with a pair of sacrifices, a home run and a career-high three runs batted in (RBI). Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference leftfielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville) was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Seven other Yellow Jackets accounted for a hit each.
On the mound, freshman Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/Perkins) made her first collegiate start and went two and one third innings. Daniel allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Freshman Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) pitched the final 4.2 innings and did not allow a run on one hit with five strikeouts and one walk.
In the game with the Red Devils, the Yellow Jacket offense scored three runs on nine hits but was held in check until the final two innings. BW scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh but left the bases loaded to end the game.
The Yellow Jacket offense was led by senior All-OAC shortstop Lauren Feciuch(Kent/Field) as she went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Peskura and senior All-OAC designated player Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) each went 2-for-4. Freshman Alex Miller(Akron/Coventry) tallied her first career-hit and Brua also had a base knock.
Freshman pitcher Samantha Dostall (Oberlin/Firelands) started her second career game and went five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits with one strikeout and four walks. Morgan pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run or hit.
BW faces Wisconsin Lutheran College and Peru State (Neb.) University on the third day of action at the annual Tucson Invitational Games on Tuesday, March 11. The Yellow Jackets and Warriors are set to play at 2 p.m. followed by the game with the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. All game times are listed in Eastern Standard Time (EST).
