BW Drops a Pair of Games on Day Four of Tucson Invitational

TUSCON, Ariz.  – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team dropped a pair of games on the fourth day of the annual Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park.

The Yellow Jackets (3-5) fell to Alfred (N.Y.) University by a final score of 4-3 in eight innings and then dropped a 1-0 decision to NAIA Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University under the lights.

Against the Saxons, BW trailed 3-0 after the top of the fifth inning before scoring one run in the bottom half of the inning and tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth.  Alfred scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning.

The BW offense scored three runs on seven hits and was led by senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference designated player/pitcher Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field)  and senior All-OAC shortstop Lauren Feciuch (Kent/Field) as both went 2-for-4.  Senior All-OAC leftfielder Nikki Peskura (Strongsville), junior All-OAC second baseman Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) and freshman pitcher Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) all had a base knock.

On the mound, Morgan started the game and pitched five innings while allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks.  Murray pitched the final three innings and suffered the loss as she allowed one run (unearned) on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

In the game with the Tigers, the Yellow Jacket offense was held scoreless for the first time this season.   BW had four hits in the game led by Murray as she went 3-for-3 with a double.  Junior first baseman Mackenzie Brua (Avon) had the game's other hit.

Freshman pitcher Darcy Daniel (Sandusky/Perkins) made her second career start and suffered her first career loss as she pitched seven innings and allowed one run on five hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Yellow Jackets face Crown (Minn.) College and NAIA Aquinas (Mich.) University on the fifth day of action at the annual Tucson Invitational Games on Thursday, March 13.  Game times are 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).
