TUSCON, Ariz. – The Baldwin Wallace University softball team split a pair of games for the third straight day at the annual Tucson Invitational Games at the Lincoln Park.
The Yellow Jackets (3-3) opened day three with an impressive 10-4 victory against Wisconsin Lutheran College but fell to NAIA Peru State (Neb.) College in the second game by a final of 9-5
Against the Warriors, BW scored a season-high 10 runs on 12 hits. The Yellow Jacket offense was led by sophomore rightfielder Alison Fiorucci (Seven Hills/Holy Name) as she went 3-for-3 with a double, a stolen base, two runs scored and two runs batted in (RBI). Freshman centerfielder Sydney Kimball (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) was 2-for-3 with a double and a career-high three RBI. Seven other BW players contributed a hit.
On the mound, freshman Erica Morgan (Brook Park/Midpark) made her first collegiate start and improved to 2-0 on the season. Morgan pitched seven innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on 12 hits with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Against the Bobcats, the Yellow Jacket offense scored five runs on 10 hits and was led by freshman third baseman DJ Rogers (Warren/Champion) as she went 2-for-3 with her first career double and a run scored. Fiorucci and senior All-OAC designated player Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) each went 2-for-4. Fiorucci added two RBI and Murray had one.
Two BW pitchers allowed nine runs (five earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
BW faces Alfred (N.Y.) University and NAIA Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) University on the fourth day of competition at the annual Tucson Invitational Games on Wednesday, March 12. The Yellow Jackets and Saxons are set to play at 6:30 p.m. followed by the game with the Tigers at 9 p.m. All game times are listed in Eastern Standard Time (EST).
