Men's Tennis 2022-23 Season Outlook

BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team under the direction of 34-year coach Brian Rector '89 are ready to hit the courts for the 2022-23 season. 

Rector, who is in his 34th season, returns nine letterwinners, three All-Ohio Athletic Conference selections and two Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference performers from last year's squad that had an overall record of 12-7 and a mark of 2-4 in the OAC. The team will feature four seniors, one junior, seven sophomores and six freshmen.

Highlighting the returners are senior All-OAC Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.), sophomores All-OAC Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills) and Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.). Kernan,who was a second-team All-OAC selection last season, lead the team in both singles (13-7) and doubles (16-4). McGee, who was a first-team All-OAC selection last season, was second to lead the team in both singles (13-5) and doubles (15-4). Hicks, who received honorable mention All-OAC honors last season, had a record of 7-8 in singles and 8-5 in doubles.  

In addition, seniors Academic All-OAC selection Mateo Gonzalez (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville South), Edwin Schartman (Westlake), and All-OAC Anthony Tosatto (Creston / Norwayne) and junior Shahzeb Malik (Strongsville) bring veteran leadership to the courts.

Sophomores Jack Hindman (Avon), Austin Kingsley (Northport, N.Y. / Northport), Tyler Perkins (Geneva), Adam Zeidler (Bay Village / Bay) and Caleb Reed (Wilmington) also return for their sophomore season. 

BW opens the 2022 fall campaign on September 3 and 4 when it competes in the Allegheny (Pa.) College Invitational on the Robertson Athletic Complex Tennis Courts.
