TEMPE, Ariz. -  For the 12th time in the last 13 seasons, the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as an All-Academic Team while an Ohio Athletic Conference best 11 student-athletes were named as Scholar Athletes.

To earn the team recognition, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale with all varsity letter winners factored into the team GPA.  To qualify for the individual honor, a player must carry at least a 3.50 GPA for the academic year and have been listed on the institutional eligibility form.

BW, who was one of 125 NCAA Division III programs to receive the honor, carried a 3.46 team grade point average.

Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC performer Trey Kernan (Penfield, N.Y.), senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Anthony Tosatto (Creston/Norwayne), junior Shahzeb Malik (Strongsville), sophomore All-OAC performer Aidan Hicks (Oneida, N.Y.), sophomore Academic All-OAC Jack Hindman (Avon), sophomore All-OAC and Academic All-OAC performer Matt McGee (Ottawa Hills), sophomore Academic-All-OAC performer Caleb Reed (Wilmington), freshman Joe Donnelly (Lodi/Cloverleaf), freshmen Henry Harders (Ottawa Hills), freshman All-OAC performer Will Horvath (Oregon/Clay) and freshman Jacob Weingart (Tiffin/Columbian) were 11 of the 1,012 NCAA Division III student-athletes to be selected as Scholar Athletes. 

Kernan, who garners his second accolade, carried a 3.64 grade point average in sport management.  This season, he tied for the team lead with a career-best tying 16 doubles victories and was fourth on the team with 10 singles wins.   For his career, Kernan recorded 40 doubles victories and 30 singles wins.  He was a two-time All-OAC player.  Off the court, Kernan was an Academic All-OAC performer, Jacket Scholar, member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and a student-assistant in the Office of Athletic Communications.

Tosatto, who earns his fourth honor, carried a 3.88 grade point average in pre-athletic training and exercise science.  This season, he recorded four singles victories, and two doubles wins.  For his career, Tosatto tallied 13 singles victories and seven doubles wins.  He was a 2021 All-OAC second-team selection.  Off the court, Tosatto was a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society.

Malik, who garners his first accolade, carries a 3.56 grade point average in health care management.  In his career, he has been hampered by injuries and has one career singles and doubles victory.  Off the court, he is a Dean's List student.

Hicks, who earns his first honor, carries a 3.79 grade point average in pre-allied health and pre-physical therapy.  For his career, he has tallied eight doubles victories and seven singles wins.  He is a 2022 All-OAC honorable mention selection.  Off the court, he is a Dean's List student.

Hindman, who garners his second honor, carries 3.69 grade point average in sport management.  This season, he posted three singles victories, and two doubles wins.  For his career, Hindman has recorded 11 singles victories and five doubles wins.  Off the court, he is an Academic All-OAC selection and a Jacket Scholar.

McGee, who earns his second accolade, carries a 3.53 grade point average in engineering.  This season, he tied for the team lead with a career-best 16 doubles victories and was second on the team with a career-high 14 singles wins.  For his career, McGee has recorded 31 doubles victories and 27 singles wins.  He is a two-time All-OAC first-team selection.  Off the court, McGee is a 2023 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree, an Academic All-OAC selection and a Jacket Scholar.

Reed, who garners his second honor, carries a 3.54 grade point average in business information systems.  This season, he recorded a career-best six doubles victories and two singles wins. For his career, Reed has tallied 10 doubles victories and seven singles wins.  Off the court, he is an Academic All-OAC selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a student manager with the Yellow Jacket swimming and diving teams.

Donnelly, who earns his first accolade, carries a 4.00 grade point average.  In his first season, he compiled three singles victories, and one doubles win.  Off the court, Donnelly is a Dean's List student.

Harders, who garners his first honor, carries a 3.96 grade point average in political science.  During his first season, he posted five doubles victories, and four singles wins.  Off the court, Harders is a Dean's List student.

Horvath, who earns his first accolade, carries a 3.63 grade point average in engineering.  He led the team with 16 singles victories and was third on team with 13 doubles wins.  Horvath was tabbed as an All-OAC first-team selection. 

Weingart, who garners his first honor, carries a 3.96 grade point average in enterprise risk analytics.  He was tied for fifth on the team with 10 singles victories and was fourth on team with nine doubles wins.  Off the court, Weingart is a Dean's List student.

BW finished the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 16-4 and a record of 3-3 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the OAC Tournament semifinals.
