Cleveland State Defeats Baldwin Wallace, 68-39, in Exhibition Game at Wolstein Center

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior guard Norris Cole scored 14 points and dished out seven assists as the Cleveland State University men's basketball team defeated Division III foe Baldwin Wallace University, 68-39, tonight (Monday, November 8, 2010) in an exhibition game at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland.

In addition to Cole for CSU, sophomore forward Charlie Woods had ten points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore forward Chris Ameen (Broadview Heights/Walsh Jesuit) with team-highs of 10 points and six rebounds while junior guard Scott Voiers (Westlake/Lutheran West) and senior guard Zane Meeder (Erie, Pa./Fairview) each contributed six points.

In the first half, CSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead before BW got on the board when Ameen hit a layup at 17:22 of the first half.  The Vikings then used a 17-4 run over the next seven minutes to take a 23-6 lead.  The Yellow Jackets hung tough cutting into the lead several times and trailed by only seven points, 25-18, with four minutes remaining in the half.  CSU used a 14-1 run to close out the first half to lead 35-19.  The Vikings were led by Norris Cole with 10 points while BW was paced by sophomore forward Scott Branchick (Mentor) with five points in the first half.

In the second half, CSU maintained its strong play on defense, collapsing on the Yellow Jackets offense.  The Vikings extended their lead to 53-26 with an 18-6 run over the first ten minutes.  CSU kept the momentum going, growing the lead to its largest margin of the game of 33 points, making it 65-32.

The Yellow Jackets open the 2010-11 regular season next Monday, Nov. 15 when they travel to University Circle to play Cleveland cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University at 8:00 p.m.  The first home game is on Thursday, Nov. 18 when BW hosts Bethany College of West Virginia in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7:00 p.m. The first Ohio Athletic Conference game is on Wednesday, December 1 when BW hosts Heidelberg University at 7:30 p.m.

The games are the January 29, 2011 twinbill versus Wilmington College and the Third Annual "Take a Kid to the Game" Day doubleheader versus Ohio Northern University on February 19, 2011.
