GREENCASTLE, Ind. --  The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team competed today on the first day of the annual ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Central Region Tournament at DePauw (Ind.) University.  The second day of competition is on Saturday and the final day is on Sunday.  This is the final fall event for the Yellow Jackets.

In singles play, freshman Claire Watts (Medina) went 1-1 on the day winning her first match 6-4 and 6-3 and losing her second match 6-1 and 6-1.  

In doubles action, sophomore Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion / Elyria Catholic) and Watts went 1-1 on the day after winning their first match 8-4 and losing their second 2-8. Also in doubles action senior Morgan Baker (Vermilion / Elyria Catholic) and sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference standout sophomore Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) also went 1-1 on the day after losing their first match 2-8 and winning their second 8-4.

This fall, the Yellow Jackets have a 1-1 dual match record, including an 8-1 win against NCAA Division II Clarion (Pa.) University, and also competed at the three-day Oberlin College Tournament.

The college tennis season is divided into two portions with the Yellow Jackets playing two dual matches and in two tournaments during the fall.  The season resumes in late winter with a match or two prior to the team's annual Spring Break Trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina.  The BW women have won four of the last seven Ohio Athletic Conference titles and made four NCAA Division III National Tournament appearances during that time.
