OBERLIN, Ohio- -  The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Oberlin College, 3-2 in double overtime, on Wednesday evening at Fred Shults Field for its third straight victory.

In the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net.  It was a tough defensive effort by both BW (4-7) and OC (4-4) that resulted in a scoreless deadlock at the end of the first stanza.  The Yellow Jackets attempted six shots near the net and junior goalkeeper Zach Haynes (Medina) had four saves.

In the second half, Oberlin scored the first goal of the match at the 51:46 mark when sophomore midfielder Nick Wertman scored his third goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.  Galen Brennan was credited on the assist.

The Yellow Jackets answered back at the 83:59 mark with the first of two goals from junior midfielder Aaron Harden (Mentor) to tie the game at 1-1.  Harden dribbled in from the left side, beat the defender off the dribble and then sent the ball into lower left corner of the net.

Just less than four minutes later, senior midfielder Ben Deighton (Richfield/ Revere) scored his second goal of the season at the 87:53 mark to give BW a  2-1 lead.

Undaunted, Oberlin would tie the score at 2-2 at the 89:15 mark as Wertman scored his second goal of the game to put the game into overtime.  Sam Weiss was credited on the assist.

After a scoreless first overtime, Harden scored the game-winner with his second goal of the contest at the 100:28 mark when he ripped a left-footed shot off a deflected ball into the back of the net to give BW a 3-2 win and its fourth victory of the season.

This Saturday, October 4, the Yellow Jackets open 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference play at Muskingum University in New Concord at 1 p.m. in the first game of a men's and women's doubleheader. The BW and Muskingum women kickoff at 3:30 p.m. The next men's home game is on Wednesday, Oct. 8 versus OAC-rival Heidelberg University on the Tressel Field pitch inside The George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
