Yellow Jackets Come up Short Against Saint Mary’s College (Md.), 2-1

SAINT MARY'S CITY, Md.- -  The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team lost in its second and final round match to host Saint Mary's College, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Seahawk Classic. The Yellow Jackets lost 2-0 yesterday to Salisbury (Md.) University in it first contest of the tourney. 

In the first half, neither team was able to find the back of the net.  It was a tough defensive effort by both BW (1-3) and SMC (4-1) that resulted in a scoreless deadlock at the end of the first stanza.  The Yellow Jackets attempted eight shots compared to the Seahawks' five.  BW attempted five shots at the net compared to SMCs' two.  

Early in the second half, Saint Mary's scored two goals to open a short-lived, 2-0 lead.  Freshman forward Alessandro Burlow scored his third goal of the season at the 48:15 mark for a 1-0, lead, and sophomore midfielder Nick Tait also scored his third goal of the season at the 49:20 mark for a 2-0 advantage.  The Yellow Jackets answered right back at the 50:54 mark as senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Michael Brennan  (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) scored his first goal of the season on a 25-yard laser into the back of the net that cut the deficit to 2-1. But unfortunately BW could not capitalize later in the second stanza.  

The BW men return to action this Wednesday, September 10 when they travel to cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University for a 7:30 p.m. game. The Yellow Jackets will then travel to Grove City (Pa.) College for a women's and men's twinbill on Saturday, September 13.  The women will begin the day on the soccer field against Grove City (Pa.) at 1:00 p.m. and the men play at 3:30 p.m.
