BW Sophomore Named OAC Hitter of the Week

BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin Wallace University sophomore second baseman/ relief pitcher Mark Zimmerman (Akron/ Green) has been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week.  Zimmerman earned the honors for his efforts in BW's first four games of the season, including a doubleheader sweep last weekend of Transylvania (Ky.) University.

For the week, Zimmerman had 10 hits in 17 at-bats for a .588 batting average with three runs scored, three doubles, a triple, three runs batted-in and a stolen base. In addition, he pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout in one of the victories at Transylvania.

A year ago, Zimmerman earned All-OAC honors as a freshman when he batted .324 (35-for-108) with 19 runs scored, eight doubles, one triple, one homer, 23 RBI and seven stolen bases in nine attempts. He had a .970 fielding average with just four errors in 135 total chances.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this weekend when they travel to Florida for their Annual Spring Break Trip. BW opens play on Sunday, March 9 when it plays Salem State (Mass.) at 6:00 p.m. It is the first of seven games in seven days.

BW opens northern play on March 18 at LaRoche (Pa.) with a doubleheader. The 2014 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule begins on Saturday, March 22 when the Jackets host Heidelberg University in a twinbill at Heritage Field in Berea at 1:00 p.m.
