BEREA, Ohio  -- Sophomore pitcher Alex Albright (North Royalton) and senior pitcher Cory Waite (Willoughby/South) combined to allow one run as the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team swept a rescheduled Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader versus Otterbein University at Heritage Field. The game was originally scheduled yesterday (Saturday, April 5) but was moved until today due to field conditions.

BW (14-8, 4-2 OAC), who swept their first OAC series of the season, won the first game by a final score of 13-1 and recorded its second shutout of the season with a 3-0 victory in the nightcap.  Otterbein (14-8, 2-4 OAC) snapped a five game winning streak and now has been swept in two OAC series.

In game one, the Yellow Jacket offense scored 13 runs on 16 hits as they scored a run in every inning but the fifth inning. BW got a run in the first, second and third, two in the fourth, three in the sixth and seventh and its final two runs in the eighth. Otterbein scored its lone run on seven hits when it scored in the seventh.

Senior catcher Joe Hiller (Twinsburg) led the Yellow Jacket offense as he went a career-best 4-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.  Sophomore designated hitter Hunter Handel (Akron/Green) had two hits and two RBI while senior third baseman Brad Gugliotta (Twinsburg), junior first baseman Kyle Chontos (Pickerington/North), junior shortstop Eric Murphy (Brook Park/Midpark) and sophomore second baseman Mark Zimmerman (Akron/Green) all had two hits with an RBI.   Junior rightfielder Alex Green (Pickerington/North) contributed a hit and RBI.

On the mound, Albright pitched seven innings and allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks as he improved to 2-2 overall. Sophomore Tom Loeffler (Shaker Heights) pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run one just one hit with one walk.

In game two, BW scored three runs on nine hits as it scored two runs in the first and added one in the eighth.

Chontos and Zimmerman led the Yellow Jacket offense as each went 2-for-4 with a double. Chontos added an RBI while Zimmerman had a stolen base. Handel went 1-for-4 with his third homer and two RBI.

On the mound, Waite pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout to improve to 3-0 on the season. He gave up his no-hit bid in the fourth inning with a single. Waite struck out one batter and surrender just one walk.

BW is back in action on Tuesday, April 8 when it travels to Wooster to face The College of Wooster in a single non-conference game at 4 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets return to OAC play on Wednesday, April 9 when they travel to University Heights to take on cross-town rival John Carroll University in an OAC doubleheader at 1 p.m.   The next home doubleheader is on Saturday, April 12 when the team hosts Wilmington College for an OAC doubleheader at 1 p.m.
