Women’s Volleyball Falls to Wisconsin-Oshkosh

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team faced the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on day one of the North Park Invitational inside the North Park Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets (8-5) fell to Wisconsin-Oshkosh (13-4) in three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-18, 25-17.

SUMMARY

The first set featured some back-and-forth play to start, until seven straight points by the Titans put them ahead. A kill by senior middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South) broke the Titans scoring streak and a service ace from freshman defensive specialist Paige Contris (Pemberville/Eastwood) brought the score up to 6-10, but UWO earned an 18-10 advantage. The Titans were able to close set one with three straight points, 25-16.

UW-Oshkosh were able to earn five straight points to start set two, pulling ahead 9-3, forcing BW into a timeout. Following the timeout, the Yellow Jackets grabbed five straight points of their own to bring the score close at 8-9. The set featured some more back-and-forth play until the Titans outscored the Yellow Jackets 8-1 midset. The Titans pulled ahead and took set two, 25-18.

The Yellow Jackets kept the third set close, tying the game at 13-13 after a service ace from junior setter Olivia Zawadzki (Hilliard/Darby). With the Titans holding just an 18-17 advantage. UWO scored seven straight points to close the set (25-17) and match (3-0).

KEY STATS

11- Sophomore outside hitter Sam Reuda (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) led the team with 11 kills and added four digs.
5- Luciano added five kills and hit .417, adding an additional two blocks.
22 – Zawadzki led with 22 assists, nine digs, and two kills.
18 - Sophomore All-OAC libero Lauren Gardner (Avon/Saint Joseph Academy) totaled 18 digs

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, September 24th for day two of the North Park Invitational where they will take on Kean University (N.J.) at 11:00 a.m. est. and North Park University at 1:30 p.m. est. inside North Park Gymnasium.
