Gardner Named Libero of the Year, Two Women’s Volleyball Players Earn All-OAC Honors

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Two Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball student-athletes have been named to the 2022 All-Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball team. Sophomore Lauren Gardner (Avon/Saint Joseph Academy) has been named the OAC Witte-Zicha Libero of the Year and both Gardner and junior setter Olivia Zawadzki (Hilliard/Darby) have earned second-team recognition. 

Gardner garners her second-straight All-OAC accolade after also earning second-team honors last season. This season, Gardner has appeared in 22 matches and 77 sets, averaging a career-high 5.86 digs per set which is second in the OAC and 12th among NCAA Division III. She totaled 451 digs this season and added 73 assists and 25 aces. Gardner was awarded OAC Defensive Player of the Week on October 10 and September 12, totaling four weekly accolades in her career.

Gardner notched her career-high in digs as she squared off with OAC opponent University of Mount Union, tallying 39 digs in the four-set match. She has posted four 30+ dig matches this season. Gardner has led the BW defense in holding opponents to just 10.35 kills per set, ranked second in the OAC behind regular season conference champion Otterbein University. In her career, Gardner has totaled 986 digs, 164 assists, and 58 aces. 

Zawadzki earns her first All-OAC accolade after totaling 818 assists, second in the OAC, and averaging 9.51 assists per set, third in the OAC. She also posted 209 digs, 59 kills, 47 total blocks, and 38 service aces. Zawadzki notched her career-high in kills (9), digs (16), and service aces (7) this year. She posted a season-high 49 assists in the five-set win over Hanover (Ind.) College.

In her collegiate career, Zawadzki has totaled 2,473 assists, 529 digs, 148 kills, 106 total blocks, and 88 service aces.

Gardner and Zawadzki helped BW conclude the year with a 13-11 overall record and a 4-5 mark in the OAC.
