BEREA, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's volleyball team faced Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest for Senior Day, honoring Academic All-OAC middle hitter Isa Luciano (Willoughby/South), in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center. The Yellow Jackets (13-11, 4-5 OAC) defeated the Comets (8-18, 0-9 OAC) in straight sets by final scores of 25-18, 25-18, and 25-16.

SUMMARY

Set one was tied 9-9 before a 5-2 run by the Yellow Jackets forced a Comet timeout (14-11 BW). Capital made a run of its own, bringing the score within one point, before a kill by freshman outside hitter Gabby Schlecht (Naperville, Ill./North) and two errors by the Comets created some separation, putting BW up 23-17. The Yellow Jackets claimed set one 25-18.

Set two was a lot of back-and-forth play as the Comets and the Yellow Jackets shared seven tie scores and six lead changes. The two teams found themselves tied late at 17-17 before back-to-back blocks by the freshman middle hitter Maleia Thurber (Temecula, Calif./Chaparral) and Schlecht duo put the home team up two points, forcing a Capital timeout. Out the break, BW rattled off four-straight to go up 23-17, going on to take the set 25-18 and go up 2-0 in the match.

BW earned the 13-8 lead to start the third set. Two straight aces by freshman defensive specialist Paige Contris (Pemberville/Eastwood) put BW up 17-10, creating a substantial advantage.
