KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team lost 9-0 to perennial NCAA Division III national powerhouse Kalamazoo (Mich.) College.
With its loss, BW is 2-3 overall this year (2013-2014), including a 1-1 mark during the fall portion of its schedule. Kalamzoo is 2-0 overall and ranked 15th in the Great Lakes Region.
The Hornets grabbed a 3-0 lead after doubles play and won all six singles matches to complete the shutout.
In doubles play, the No.1 Yellow Jacket tandem of sophomore Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and senior Morgan Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) lost to Kalamazoo's Sarah Woods and Jenna Riehl, 8-1. The No.2 duo of freshman Claire Watts (Medina) and sophomore Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/Elyria Catholic) lost to the Hornets' Kelsey Moran and Ania Latala, 8-2. The No.3 team of sophomore Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/ Davidson) and senior Whitney Yoder (Medina) lost to the KC duo of Sabrina Dass and Olivia Bouchard, 8-3.
In singles play, Blatt lost at No.1 to Woods, 6-1 and 6-1. Morgan Baker lost at No.2 to Riehl, 6-0 and 6-0. Watts lost at No.3 to Moran, 6-0 and 6-0. Donalson lost at No.4 to Dass, 6-2 and 6-1. Mackenzi Baker lost at No.5 to Latala, 6-1 and 6-0. Yoder lost at No.6 to Bouchard, 6-3 and 7-5.
The Yellow Jackets travel to Hilton Head the Week of March 9-15 and play six matches, including three against NCAA Division II competition.
