Women’s Soccer Falls to Otterbein in First Road Game

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team fell to Otterbein University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 2-9 inside Memorial Stadium.

BW (0-2, 0-2 OAC) was led by senior Academic All-OAC midfielder Kaitlin Mcguire (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland)freshman forward Taylor Tomlinson (Girard/ Youngstown Ursuline) as each scored one goal.

Otterbein (3-0, 3-0 OAC) started the first half strong when Cardinal's midfielder Bella Shively lofted the ball into the net 52 seconds into the game. The Yellow Jackets responded with a goal of their own at the 38:31 mark when Tomlinson found the back of the net for her first career goal. After multiple shot attempts by Otterbein's attack, they scored again at the 22:18 mark. Otterbein closed out the first half on a 7-0 run to take the 7-1 lead at the intermission.

BW got their second and final goal of the game at the 56 minute mark of the second half with a goal from Mcguire. The Cardinals followed up with a goal from Emerson Woener just a minute later. The following 20 minutes saw a lot of back-and-forth shots from both offensive lines, coming to a head when Otterbein's Grace Dunaway buried one in the net at the 31:50 mark. The second half ended 2-1 in goals giving the Cardinals the 9-2 win.

In the net for the Yellow Jackets, junior goalkeeper Lyndsey Valentine (Springboro) as she played played the first half and allowed seven goals on 14 shots with three saves. Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Hofmann (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls), who made her first career apperance, played the second half and allowed two goals on six shots with four saves.

BW is back in action on Thursday, March 25 for an OAC game against Heidelberg University on Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
