Lemmon’s Game-Winner and Career-High Leads BW Women’s Basketball to Win

BEREA, Ohio – Sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) hit the game-winner with 11 seconds left in regulation and scored a career-high 25 points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team defeated Otterbein University, 70-68, in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (17-4, 12-2 OAC), who remains in a first place tie in the OAC standings with both John Carroll University and Ohio Northern University, won its fifth straight and 10th game in its last 11 outings.

In addition to Lemmon for the Yellow Jackets, who recorded her second career double-double and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, sophomore guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) scored 10 points.

Otterbein (5-16, 2-12 OAC) were led by junior power forward Amariah Hauck with 19 points and senior guard Madi Miller with 16.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 20-9 lead on a three-pointer by sophomore forward Taylor Pifher at the 12:35 mark. BW responded with a 8-3 run to cut the lead down to 20-17 on a trey by senior All-OAC guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic) at 10:37. Otterbein outscored BW 24-17 down the stretch to lead 44-34 at the intermission.

The Cardinals opened the second half on a 5-0 run when senior guard Mary Corbett split a pair of free throws at the 18:26 mark. The Yellow Jackets answered back with a 17-2 to tie the game at 51-51 on a three-pointer by junior guard Janaya Feaster (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) at 10:39.

After the game was tied at 53-53, Otterbein used a 12-6 run to take a 65-59 lead on a layup by Miller at the 6:21 mark. BW answered back with a 9-3 run to tie the game at 68-68 on a layup by Lemmon at 2:42. Lemmon knocked down the game-winner jumper with 11 seconds as the Cardinal missed a last second shot for the win.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, February 11 when they travel to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7:30 p.m. The next home game is on Wednesday, February 18 when BW hosts Ohio Northern University on Swarm the Gym Night in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 7:30 p.m.
