BW Women's Basketball Defeats Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) in Non-Conference Finale

BEREA, Ohio – Four Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball players scored in double figures as the Yellow Jackets won their non-conference finale and remained undefeated at home with a 77-63 victory against Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (9-3) was led by sophomore point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) with a career-high tying 16 points and a career and game-best six assists. Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Shari Mangas (Leipsic) and sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) each added 13 points, which was a career-high for Lemmon. Senior All-OAC and Academic OAC guard/forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) rounded out the double figure scorers with 10.

Carnegie Mellon (8-2) was led by sophomore center Lisa Murphy with a game-high 18 points. Junior guard Lindsay Poss added a double-double as she scored 11 points and grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds. Freshman guard Anna Novak tallied 10 points.
The first half would feature five ties with the last coming at 20-20 on a three-pointer by Yellow Jacket guard Mangas at the 8:55 mark. BW outscored the Tartans 17-8 down the stretch to lead 37-28 at the intermission.

Carnegie Mellon held its largest lead of the opening period of six points at 18-12 as they used a 7-1 run capped off on a layup by Mackenzie Boyd at 10:23. The Yellow Jackets held the largest lead for either team at nine points on two occasions with the last coming at 37-28 on a layup by Mangas with just 37 seconds left in the opening stanza.

BW opened the second half on an 8-1run to take a game-high 16-point lead at 45-29 on a trey by freshman guard Casey Midlik (Medina) at the 16:14 mark. The Tartans responded with a 9-2 run to cut the lead down to nine points at 47-38 on a layup by Murphy at 13:33. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 7-1 run lead to push the lead back to 15 points at 54-39 on a triple by Clark at the 11:06 mark.

Carnegie Mellon answered back with a 13-6 run to cut the lead down to eight points at 60-52 on a three-pointer by Chandler Caufield at 4:40. BW outscored the Tartans 16-11 down the stretch to secure the win.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 10 when they travel to Bexley as they return to Ohio Athletic Conference action against Capital University at 3 p.m. The next home game is on Wednesday, January 14 when the team hosts Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gym at 7:30 p.m.
