Lemmon's Double-Double Leads BW Women's Basketball to Win at Capital

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team won its third straight game and its seventh in the last eight as the Yellow Jackets knocked off Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game by a final score of 47-39 in the Capital Center.
BW (10-3, 5-1 OAC) snapped a six game losing streak to Capital (6-7, 2-4 OAC) dating back to the final game of the 2011-12 season.
 
The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) with her first career double-double as she scored a game-high tying 11 points and grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds.  Senior All-OAC guard/forward Audrey Smolik (Strongsville) added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Crusaders were led by junior forward Kristen Thompson with a game-high tying 11 points.  Junior guard Simonne Gage added a double-double as she scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

In the first half, BW jumped out to a 12-7 lead on a layup by Smolik at the 11:46 mark.  Capital responded with a 7-4 to cut the lead down to two points at 16-14 on a layup by junior forward Jaren Francis at 8:27.   The Yellow Jackets answered with a 7-2 run to push the lead back to seven points at 23-16 on three-pointer by junior guard Alissa Munro (Mansfield/Lexington) with 51 seconds remaining.   BW led 23-19 at the intermission.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on an 11-4 run to push their lead to a game-high 11 points at 34-23 on a jumper by Lemmon at the 12:09 mark.  The Crusaders responded with a 16-4 run to take a one-point lead at 39-38 when junior guard Jenna Erwin split a pair of free throws at 2:24.  BW would score the game's final nine points to secure the 47-39 victory.
 
The Yellow Jackets return to action on Wednesday, January 14 when they hosts an OAC game against Heidelberg University in Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
