Men’s Tennis Team Shuts Out Capital, 9-0

BEREA, OHIO --  Senior number one in singles and doubles standout Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) moved into a tie for second place on the all-time victory list and the Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team remained unbeaten at 18-0 overall with a 9-0 shutout victory against Ohio Athletic Conference rival  Capital University this afternoon (Tuesday, April 10, 2012) in the Lou Higgins Recreation Center, where they played in pro-sets.

Trzeciak's singles win was the 81st of his career. He is now 81-19 overall and tied Sam Burris (2008-11) for second place on the all-time Yellow Jacket victory list. Burris also had 81 wins and an 81-19 career slate. Trzeciak also is 74-24 career in doubles play. In addition, his two victories today (singles and doubles) give him 155 for his career to rank second all-time to James Daly (2005-08/ 196 career combination wins).

With its victory, B-W is now 18-0 overall and 4-0 in the OAC and has shut out 10 opponents this season. Overall, the Yellow Jackets have outscored the opposition, 150-12 this season. Capital dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-3 in the OAC.

B-W gained an early 3-0 lead after the doubles competition and won all six singles matches to stretch its winning ways to 18 straight.

In singles play, Trzeciak won 8-5 at No.1, junior All-OAC standout Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won 8-2 at No.2, freshman Kyle Patterson (Wooster/ Triway) won 8-1 at No.3, senior Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, FRANCE) won 8-3 at No.4, junior No.5 player Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) won 8-1 and sophomore Brad Minrovic (Akron Ellet) won at No.6 by the score of 8-0.

Horvath's singles victory was the 61st of his career. He is now 64-8 overall and ranks 10th all-time and is one win shy of ninth place Andy Redd (2007-10/ 65-33 record) He also has a 59-12 doubles slate and his 123 career combination wins ranks 10th.

This season, Trzeciak tops the Yellow Jackets in victories with 20 and is 20-3 overall. He is followed by Horvath at 19-2, Patterson at 18-3, Kearney at 17-4, Bourdieaux at a perfect 15-0 and Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point/New York) is 13-1.

In doubles action, the number one tandem of Trzeciak and Bourdiaux won by an 9-8 (7-4) score, the No.2 duo of Horvath and Kearney won by a score of 8-6 and the No.3 team of Patterson and senior Taylor Long (Ashland/ Senior) won by an 8-2 score. Trzeciak and Bourdiaux are now 13-1.
