Men's Tennis Team Defeats Malone University, 8-1

NORTH CANTON, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team opened the 2011-12 season by defeating NCAA Division II Malone University today (Saturday, September 17, 2011) by a final score of 8-1 on the Harvard Courts.

In singles play, B-W dominated taking five of the six matches. Senior number one singles player Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) won with the scores of 6-3 and 6-2, junior No.2 player Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won in straight sets 6-0,6-0. In addition for the Jackets, sophomore No.4 player Brad Minrovic (Akron/Ellet) won 6-1, 6-1, junior No.5 player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) won 6-2, 6-0, and sophomore No.6 player Josh Pecinovsky (Whitehall/ Columbus Bishop Hartley) won 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles play, B-W took all three matches to earn three points. The No.1 duo of Trzeciak and Minrovic won with a score of 8-3, No. 2 duo Kearney and senior Taylor Long (Ashland) won a close match 8-6, and No.3 tandem of Horvath and Patterson were victorious 8-1.

Following its second match today against Franciscan at 4:00 p.m., B-W will compete in the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships at Washington, Missouri from Sept. 23-26.
