Men’s Tennis Team Beat Franciscan to Increase Mark to 25-0

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's tennis team defeated Franciscan University, 9-0, today (Saturday, April 28, 2012) inside the Lou Higgins Center to remain unbeaten and increase its school record for victories in a single season to 25. The match was moved indoors due to inclement weather outside at the "Pop Collins" Courts. Earlier this afternoon, the Yellow Jackets shut out Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 9-0, to establish the school-record for victories in a single season.

With its victory, the Yellow Jackets improve to a school-record 25-0 overall. The 25 wins is two more than the previous mark of 23, set by the 2004-2005 team that finished 23-2 overall. Franciscan dropped to 12-3 overall.


B-W led 3-0 after the doubles competition and won all six of their singles matches to stretch its winning ways.


In singles play, senior 3-time All-OAC and 2-time Acadmic All-OAC standout Alex Trzeciak (Avon Lake) won 6-3 and 6-2 at No.1, junior All-OAC standout Joe Horvath (North Royalton) won 6-3 and 6-3 at No.2, senior Alexandre Bourdiaux (Paris, FRANCE) won 6-2 and 6-3 at No.3, junior Alex Kearney (North Olmsted) won 6-2 and 6-2 at No.4, junior Tyler Beaton (Bemus Point , N.Y./ Maple Grove) won 6-1 and 6-3 at No.5 and sophomore No.6 player Brad Minrovic (Akron/ Ellet) won 6-0 and 6-3.


With his victory at first singles, Trzeciak improves to 87-20 individually and is ranked second all-time in victories. Horvath's victory at No.2 was the 71st of his career and he improved to 71-8 overall.


In doubles action, the No.1 duo of Trzeciak and Bourdiaux won by an 8-6 score, the No. 2 tandem of Horvath and Beaton won by the score of 8-2 and the No.3 team of Patterson and senior Taylor Long (Ashland/ Senior) won by an 8-2 score.


Long's victory at No.3 doubles was the 81st of his career, ranking him second all-time.  He has combined with a number of doubles partners for an 81-24 career mark.


The 2012 OAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, May 1 with a men's first round match in Berea against Marietta at 3:30 p.m.


On May 1, prior to B-W's first round OAC Tournament match in Berea, the College is going to recognize Coach Rector for his 400th career victory. He is the winningest men's tennis coach in OAC and Ohio collegiate history. The win versus Fransiscan was the 410th of his career and he is now 410-83 overall.
