Yellow Jackets Hire Jeff Reardon as its Defensive Backs Coach

BEREA, OHIO --  Baldwin-Wallace College Head Football Coach John Snell has hired Jeff Reardon as his new Assistant Coach in charge of the defensive secondary.  He joins the Yellow Jacket staff from NCAA Division II national runner-up Wayne State (Mich.) University. Reardon replaces Tom Watts who left B-W to become the head coach at Ohio Wesleyan University at the beginning of March.

Reardon, a 2007 graduate of Hope (Mich.) College, rejoined the Wayne State staff in the summer of 2010 as video coordinator and safeties coach.  He originally joined the Wayne State football staff in March 2008 and served as an assistant defensive backs coach in both 2008-09 and 2009-10 following a stint as a student assistant coach at Hope in the fall of 2007. While at Hope, Reardon lettered in football in both 2005-06 and 2006-07 as a quarterback and was an Academic All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) choice as a senior.

"It is a priviledge to be a part of the Baldwin-Wallace College Football Family," said Reardon. "to be able to join and contribute to a program with such a great tradition of success is a tremendous opportunity. I look forward to the challenges that we face playing in the best NCAA Division III conference in the country."

Yellow Jacket veteran Head Coach John Snell is pleased to welcome Reardon to his staff.

"We are pleased to welcome Jeff to the Baldwin-Wallace athletics family and to our football program," said Snell, who has a 66-36 career record in 10 seasons at his alma mater. "Jeff did an outstanding job in the interview process, has excellent credentials and comes from a family of football coaches.

"Jeff was a fine student-athlete at Hope College in Michigan and has coached at Wayne State and learned what it takes to win at the national championship level," continued Snell. "In addition,  his father was a football coach and athletics director and his brother is a college coach, so he comes from great stock.

"On top of it all, Jeff got great recommendations from Coach Winter [Paul] at Wayne State, Coach Kreps [Dean] at Hope and from Coach Meyer [Jim, who coached with Reardon at Wayne State before coming to B-W as Defensive Coordinator four years ago]," said Snell.  "We think that B-W is a perfect fit for Jeff and we feel he will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and athletics program."

In 2011, the Wayne State defense squad ranked 14th in quarterback sacks (3.0 per game), 39th in rushing defense (123.3 yards per game) and 49th in scoring defense (23.9 points per game) as it reached the national championship game for the first time in school history.  The Warriors were ranked second in the final AFCA NCAA Division II poll and set school records with 12 wins, four playoff victories and eight triumphs on the road.

Two of his student-athletes received academic all-conference honors and graduated safety Jeremy Jones was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Defensive Back of the Year and to a number of NCAA Division II All-America squads.

In 2009, Reardon helped coach one all-league performer (Jones) and four academic all-conference selections.

The Stanwood, Michigan native graduated from Sturgis High School in 2003.  As a player, Reardon was a three-year starter who earned first-team All-Conference and honorable mention All-Michigan honors as a senior.

Reardon is a member of the American Football Coaches Association.
