Twelve Football Student-Athletes Named All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO – Twelve Baldwin-Wallace College football student-athletes have been selected to the 2011 All-Ohio Athletic Conference squad announced today (Monday, November 21, 2011), including eight first-team honorees. 

The first-team is comprised of six seniors, one junior and one sophomore.  The seniors included safety Ryan Dugan (Mentor), tight end Aaron Hurd (Tiffin/ Columbian), offensive tackle Travis Barnhill (Findlay), defensive ends Derron Hamilton (Euclid) and George "Sonny" Hazelwood (Elyria/ Senior) and linebacker Brett Thompson (Shelby). The junior is  running back Tyler Lohr (Kent/ Roosevelt) and the sophomore is wide receiver/ kickoff return specialist Josiah Holt (Elyria/ Grafton Midview). On the second-team are senior offensive center Jimmy Basar (Parma/ Senior) and senior safety Corey Hildreth (Massillon/Washington), and junior defensive tackle Max Wagner (Mentor) and junior outside linebacker J.J. Laseak (Mentor) are honorable mention choices.

Dugan, an exercise science major and one of four team captains, is a three-time All-OAC honoree. This accolades follows two straight All-OAC second-team selections (2009 and 2010). This season, he had 57 tackles, including 30 solo stops, and two interceptions. He had seven total pass breakups and recovered a fumble. He end his career with 186 career tackles and 12 interceptions. Dugan's 12 thefts ranks fifth all-time in school history and his 45 career pass breakups is fourth all-time. He also earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for a career-high 16-tackle performance in a 20-6 victory against Ohio Northern University. 

Hurd, who is a business administration major, moved up to the first team this season after being a second team performer in 2010. He was third on the team in receiving with 12 catches for 193 yards and a touchdown. He also was a key blocker for a Yellow Jacket running game that accounted for 196.8 yards per game. Hurd ends his career with 54 catches for 627 yards and six TDs.

Barnhill, a six-foot and three-inch and 295-pound tackle, started all 10 games on an offense that ranked fourth in the OAC in total yardage (370.1 ypg.) and scoring (30.2 ppg.). He has been a starter for the past three seasons.

Hamilton, a sport management major, was a three-year varsity contributor who had his best season as a collegian this fall. He had a career-high 39 tackles, including an OAC-leading 15 tackles for loss and 11.0 quarterback sacks for minus 80 yards. His 11 QB sacks ranks fourth in Division III and were two shy of tying a B-W single-season record. He also recovered two fumbles and had one pass breakup. Hamilton ends his career with 75 tackles, including 20.5 tackles for losses and 15.5 QB sacks. He was named as the OAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 17-7 win at Marietta College. 

Hazelwood, a business administration and marketing double major, was a three-year varsity contributor who started every game as a junior and senior. He transferred to B-W from OAC-rival Heidelberg University after his freshman season. Hazelwood finished third in the OAC in quarterback sacks with 7.5 and tied for third in tackles for loss with 13.0. He ends his career with 69 tackles, including 19.0 tackles for losses and 9.5 QB sacks.  

Thompson, a mathematics and education major, led the Yellow Jackets with 63 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for losses of 34 yards and 2.0 quarterback sacks. He also led the team with 35 solo tackles and with four interceptions, including two he returned for TDs. Thompson's 95-yard interception return for a TD in the win against ONU was a B-W and The George Finnie Stadium record. The four-year letterman and three-year starter leaves the program with 219 career tackles, including 28.5 tackles for losses and 7.0 QB sacks and five interceptions.

Lohr, a criminal justice major, was B-W's "feature back" this season. He led the team and ranked third in the OAC as he rushed for 924 yards in 190 carries with seven TDs. He had five 100-yard rushing games, including three straight contests. Lohr also caught five passes for 28 yards. He was named as the OAC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in a 27-21 win at Otterbein University. 

Holt received his honor for being one of the top kick return specialists in Division III for the second straight year. He returned 11 kickoffs for a 30.7-yard average and two TDs. He now has three career kick return TDs. In addition this season, Holt rushed the ball eight times for 51 yards and one TD and tied for first on the team in recpetions with 23 for 245 yards and two more TDs. 

Basar, a physics major and team captain, was in his third season of handling the center duties on the offensive line. The three-year starter helped lead an offense that ranked fourth in the OAC in yardage (370.1 ypg.) and in scoring (30.2 ppg.).

Hildreth, an exercise major, was a four-year varsity contributor and three-year starter who also had his best season as a collegian this fall.  He had 53 total tackles, seven pass breakups and three interceptions. For his career, the four-year letterman had 144 tackles, including 87 solo stops, seven tackles for loss, 18 pass breakups and six interceptions.

Wagner, a pre-physical therapy and exercise science major, had his best season as a collegian as he recorded a career-high 40 tackles, including 16 solo stops, 8.5 tackles for lost yardage and 5.5 QB sacks.  The three-year varsity standout and two-year starter has 66 career tackles, including 10 for loss and 6.5 QB sacks.

Laseak, an education major, was one of the best linebackers in the OAC again this season. Since transferring to B-W from NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University in the spring of 2009, he has been a key mainstay and leader. This season, Laseak was second on the team with 59 tackles, including six tackles for lost yardage and 3.5 QB sacks. He has 166 career tackles, including 17.5 for loss and 5.5 QB sacks.

The Yellow Jackets had an outstanding season and finished with an 8-2 overall record and second in the OAC at 7-2.
