Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight Match in Straight Sets Against Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio  -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball won its fifth straight match as it defeated Oberlin College in three sets in the Philips Gymnasium inside the Philips Physical Education Building,

BW (5-1), who defeated Oberlin (2-4) in straight sets last Saturday at the LaRoche (Pa.) College Tournament, swept the season series by scores of 25-17, 25-19 and 25-9.    The Yellow Jackets have posted eight straight victories against the Yeowomen.

The BW offense was led by freshman outside hitter Morgan Thomas (Northfield/Nordonia) with a team-high nine kills.  Junior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) and freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) each contributed seven.   Freshman utility player Jordan Diels (Paris/Minerva) had career-best six kills.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg /Springfield) set up the offense with game-best tying 27 assists and one service ace.  Freshman setter Lexi Winkelfoos (Mount Gilead/Highland) also contributed a career-best five assist and had her first career service ace.

Defensively, freshman defensive specialist Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon Perry) had a team-high 14 digs while junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) and sophomore defensive specialist Emily Daveant (North Ridgeville) each tallied nine digs.   The nine digs were a career-best for Daveant.

BW is back in action this Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12 when it co-hosts the 17th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational along with Case Western Reserve University.   Action begins on Friday at 5:30 p.m. with the first matches on Saturday to begin at 10 a.m.

The Yellow Jackets open the invitational with matches against Westminster (Pa.) College and Franciscan University on Friday.  BW closes out the invitational with matches against Buffalo State (N.Y.) University and Thiel (Pa.) College on Saturday.
