Volleyball Sweeps a Pair of Matches on First Day of LaRoche Tournament

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball earned its first wins of the season and for first-year Head Coach Scott Carter as it swept a pair of matches on the first day of competition at the LaRoche College Tournament on Scott Lang Court in the Kerr Fitness and Sports Center.

BW (2-1) opened the tournament with a three set victory against Chatham (Pa.) University by scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-8.  The Yellow Jackets closed the first day of action with a three-set win against Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College by scores of 25-17, 25-13 and 25-16.

The BW offense was led by freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) had 11 kills against Chatham and freshman outside hitter Morgan Thomas (Northfield/Nordonia) had a career-high 13 kills against Washington & Jefferson.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg /Springfield) set up the offense with a two match total of 49 assists, including a career-best 37 against Washington & Jefferson. 

Defensively, freshman defensive specialist Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon Perry) had a two match total of 30 digs, including 21 against Washington & Jefferson.

The Yellow Jackets close out the tournament on Saturday, September 5 against Oberlin College and Alfred (N.Y.) University 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
