Volleyball Drops Season Opener in a Thriller to Adrian (Mich.)

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball opened the 2015 season with a thrilling and competitive three set match defeat to Adrian College in the Merillat Gymnasium.

BW (0-1) fell in straight sets by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-22.   Adrian (1-0) has now won its last two season openers.

The Yellow Jacket offense was led by freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) with a game-high 14 kills in her first collegiate match.  Junior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) added nine kills in her first match in the Brown and Gold.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg /Springfield) set up the offense with a game-high 36 assists and added six digs in her first collegiate match.

Defensively, freshman defensive specialist Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon Perry) had a game-best 27 digs and Lortcher added 18.


The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Friday and Saturday, September 4 and 5 when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to compete in the LaRoche College Tournament.  BW plays Chatham (Pa.) University and Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College on Friday and closes out the tournament against Oberlin College and Alfred (N.Y.) University on Saturday.   Friday's matches begin at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday's first match is at 10 a.m.
