Volleyball Defeats Cross-Town Rival John Carroll in Key OAC Match

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference and cross-town rival John Carroll University in a key OAC match with a straight set victory in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (21-5, 4-2 OAC), who snapped a two-match losing streak to John Carroll (12-12, 3-3 OAC) won by scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 29-27.

Junior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) and freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) led the offensive attack with a match-high tying 12 kills apiece.  Freshman outside hitter Morgan Thomas (Northfield/Nordonia) had eight kills and sophomore utility player Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) contributed a season-best seven kills.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg /Springfield) set up the offense with a match-high 33 assists.

Freshman libero Brittany Miner (Canton/Massillon Perry) anchored the defense with a team-best 19 digs.  Lortcher added 16 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Emily Daveant (North Ridgeville) tallied a career-high14 digs.  Nuding contributed a career-best 13 digs.

The Yellow Jackets close out the home portion of their regular season schedule  on Saturday, October 24 when they host an OAC match against Otterbein University on Seniors' and Parents' Day at 1 p.m.
