Volleyball Ends Season with Loss to Otterbein in OAC Tournament Quarterfinals

BEREA, Ohio -- The third-seeded Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team ended its season as it was defeated by sixth-seeded Otterbein University in a three-set Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal match in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (23-7) ends its season with the most wins in a season since 2006 when the Yellow Jackets finished with a 26-7 record.   Otterbein (14-17) advances to the semifinals on Thursday, November 7 against second-seeded Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals won match by scores of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-20.

Freshman outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) led the offensive attack with eight kills.  Junior middle hitter Nikolette Scruggs (Barberton) and sophomore utility player Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) each tallied seven kills.

Freshman setter Ashley Nuding (Perrysburg/Springfield) set up the offense with match-high tying 30 assists. Nuding also added one of four Yellow Jacket service aces.  Sophomore defensive specialist Emily Daveant (North Ridgeville), Lortcher and freshman defensive specialist Angel Redman (Hinckley/Medina Highland) tallied the other three service aces.   Redman's ace was her fourth of the season and first at home.

Lortcher anchored the defense with 13 digs.  Junior All-OAC libero Arlayna Newcomer (Norwalk/St. Paul) tallied nine digs and Nuding added six.

The winners of the two semifinals matches will advance to the OAC Tournament Championship at the site of the highest remaining seed on Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m.

After the conclusion of the tournament on Saturday, the OAC will announce its all-conference teams and special award winners.
