Scott Carter Named New Baldwin Wallace Volleyball Coach

BEREA, Ohio  -- Baldwin Wallace University Director of Athletics Kris A. Diaz '78 has hired Scott Carter as the school's new volleyball coach.  Carter becomes the fifth volleyball coach in BW history.

Carter comes to BW after serving the past three years as the head coach at Hiram College. At Hiram, he posted a 72-25 record and his teams were ranked in the Top-5 of Division III both offensively and defensively. Carter coached 11 All-North Coast Athletic Conference selections, including the 2013 NCAC Freshman of the Year, two Great Lakes All-Region honorees and one American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-American.

Prior to becoming the head coach, he served as the assistant coach/defensive coordinator in 2010 season and was promoted to associate head coach in 2011.   During the 2011 season, Hiram was the 16th-nationally in blocking, and made its third NCAA Division III Tournament appearance.

Before coaching at Hiram, Carter spent two years as Head Coach at Stow-Munroe Falls High School. He led the team to two OHSAA (Ohio High School Athletic Association) District championships, a regional title and an appearance in the OHSAA State Tournament Final Four. He received back-to-back Northeast Ohio Conference Coach of the Year awards and coached seven All-NOC and six All-District players.

In addition, Carter has served as the head coach at both NCAA Division I Kent State University and Sacred Heart (Conn.) University and has been an assistant coach at the University of Kentucky, KSU and NCAA Division III Oneonta State (N.Y.) University.  He also was the head men's volleyball coach at Broome (N.Y.) Community College, Sacred Heart and Oneonta State.

Carter is a well-known recruiter and made a name for himself as one of the nation's best in recruiting at UK and KSU. He produced three consecutive recruiting classes that ranked amongst the Top-50 nationally in Division I and helped those programs to more than double their win totals within a three-year period. Also during his time at UK and KSU, he recruited and coached nine All-Freshman Team selections and six All-Conference players.

Using his recruiting successes, Carter became a recruiting consultant and started his own company. From 2007-2012, he helped collegiate coaches identify, evaluate and rank high school volleyball players from across the country.

Carter earned an associate's degree in sociology from Broome Community College, a bachelor's degree in psychology from Oneonta State and is currently working on his master's degree in sports psychology/exercise physiology from Southern Connecticut State University.
