Four Women's Track & Field Student-Athletes Earn USTFCCCA Academic Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Four Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field student-athletes have earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Honors, as announced by the organization Thursday morning.

To qualify for the honor, a student-athlete must have at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and above and also met one of the following standards:

  • Have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
  • Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.

Sophomore All-American distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit), sophomore All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve), sophomore All-OAC distance runner Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View) and sophomore All-OAC thrower Jillian Roberts (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) are four of the 627 female student-athletes who received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

Brennan earns her second consecutive USTFCCCA All-Academic honor as she carries a 3.98 GPA in finance and marketing. She earned All-American status with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the 2018 NCAA Outdoor Championships to go along with her two All-OAC finishes and two USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors this season. Academically, Brennan is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a two-time Academic All-OAC selection, a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies and a Google Cloud Academic All-American.

Buckhannon garners her first career USTFCCCA All-Academic accolade with a 3.95 GPA in public relations. In her sophomore campaign, she earned four separate All-OAC honors, two USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region honors and an All-Ohio accolade while also being named the OAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week in back-to-back weeks in the outdoor season. Buckhannon is a Dean's List student, a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and an Academic All-OAC selection.

Pendola also earns her first USTFCCCA All-Academic honor as she carries a 3.66 GPA in neuroscience and psychology. A member of the BW cross country team, the sophomore earned both indoor and outdoor All-Ohio honors in the 5,000-meter run. Academically, Pendola is an Academic All-OAC honoree for both cross country and track and field as well as a Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar.

Roberts garners her first USTFCCCA All-Academic accolade with a 3.47 GPA in exercise science. After earning her first All-OAC honor in the outdoor shot put as a freshman, she backed it up with a third-place finish at the OAC Indoor Championships as a sophomore. Roberts also earned her first career USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region nod in the outdoor shot put.

The Yellow Jackets finished the 2018 campaign fifth in both the OAC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
