Women's Indoor Track and Field Competes at Hillsdale "Wide Track" Classic

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team went up against NCAA Division II competition in the two-day Hillsdale "Wide Track" Classic, hosted by Hillsdale (Mich.) College inside the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.

On day one of the meet, sophomore All-OAC distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) claimed the 5,000-meter run title and set a career-best for the second week in a row. Brennan won the event in 17:35.53, almost 1 minute faster than the career best she set last week, and finished 20 seconds faster than the second place runner.

Three Yellow Jacket throwers set career best marks in the weight throw. Sophomore All-OAC thrower Jillian Roberts (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) crushed her career-best in the weight throw by over 8 feet with a toss of 51 feet, 11.25 inches to finish ninth of 48 throwers. Sophomore Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) finished 11th with a throw of 49'9" while senior thrower Madeline Ziccardi (Cuyahoga Falls) had a mark of 47'11" to place 15th.

In relay action, freshman Rebecca Penrose (Springfield/Shawnee), freshman Ellie Kohler (Telford, Pa./Souderton Area), sophomore Katie Fowler (Mount Vernon) and All-OAC sophomore Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View) combined to take fifth in the distance medley with a time of 12:57.94.

On day two, Penrose took first in the 800-meter run in a career-best time of 2:25.96. Pendola took fifth in the 1-mile run with a career-best time of 5:23.39 while freshman Hastings Marek (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) was eighth in the same event with a time of 5:32.95. Freshman jumper Heather Orr (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) tied for seventh in the high jump when she cleared a career-best height of 4'11.75".

The Yellow Jackets return to Berea to host the Mid-February Meet on Friday, February 9, inside the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. Field events begin at 4 p.m. while the running events will begin at approximately 5 p.m.
