ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team competed in the John Homon Open, hosted by fellow Ohio Athletic Conference school University of Mount Union inside Mount Union Stadium.

In the field, sophomore All-OAC thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) put together career performances in all three of her events. The sophomore was the runner-up in the shot put with a career-best mark of 42 feet, 2.25 inches, crushing her previous career best by almost 4 full feet. Buckhannon was also the runner-up in the discus with a career-best mark 135'8" and fourth in the hammer throw, tossing 155'7". Channeling her fellow sophomore thrower, Breeanna Karam (Dover) tossed a career-best 110'7" in the discus to take ninth place. In the jumps, junior Jessica Edwards (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) had two top-three finishes in both her events, placing third in the long jump and second in the triple jump with leaps of 13'10.5" and 32'2.5".

On the track, junior All-OAC sprinter Grace Nemeth (Medina) was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.62 seconds and also placed third in the 100-meter dash in 12.81 seconds. Freshmen distance runners Hastings Marek (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) and Rebecca Penrose (Sprinfield/Shawnee) and senior sprinter Carlynn Arthur (Danville) each turned in career-best times in their respective events. Marek finished fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a career-best time of 11:36.57, making an improvement of almost 16 seconds, while Penrose finished ninth in the 800-meter run in a career-best 2:23.77. In her first outdoor hurdle event since 2016, Arthur took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 1:09.49. Sophomore All-OAC distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) placed fourth in her first 5,000-meter run of the outdoor season in a time of 18:06.85.

BW will be back in action on Saturday, April 14, at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on the George Gauthier Track.
