No. 5 Men’s Wrestling Defeats Wilmington, Claims Fourth Straight OAC Championship

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 5 nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling won its school-record tying fourth straight Ohio Athletic Conference Championship as it defeated Wilmington College by a final score of 50-0 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (14-2, 7-0 OAC), who also won four straight titles from 2015-19, has won now won eight of the last nine OAC Championships.

The Yellow Jackets won all 9 matches competed as one match was a double forfeit.  BW as improved to 5-0 all-time against Wilmington (1-7, 1-5 OAC).

  • 125 pounds:    Senior All-American and No. 4 nationally ranked Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) won by forfeit
  • 133 pounds:    Double forfeit
  • 141 pounds:    Freshman Keegan McMahon (Ashburn, Va./Paul VI Catholic) won by forfeit
  • 149 pounds:    Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Robby Palmieri (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) won by forfeit
  • 157 pounds:    Senior Academic All-OAC Justin Ritchie (Carlisle) won an 18-0 technical fall over Aaron Pardo
  • 165 pounds:    Senior Academic All-OAC Hunter Kupniewski (North Royalton) won by pinfall in 26 seconds over Garrett Simmons
  • 174 pounds:    Junior Carter Lloyd (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won by pinfall in 5:13 over Alexander Ruth
  • 184 pounds:    Senior Ryan Weitz (Dancille, Pa./North Schuylkill) won by forfeit
  • 197 pounds:    Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC Luke Hopkins (Cuyahoga Heights) won an 11-7 Caleb Tackett
  • 285 pounds:    Senior All-American and No. 5 nationally ranked Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) won by forfeit

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, February 9 when they travel to nearby South Euclid for a non-conference dual against NCAA Division II Notre Dame College in the Murphy Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
