WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Senior All-American and No. 1 nationally ranked 149-pound men's wrestler Michael Petrella (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler of the Year, Head Coach Jamie Gibbs, and Associate Head Coach Jason Zastrow along with the rest of the staff were selected as the OAC Coaching Staff of the Year for the third straight season to lead nine wrestlers recognized on the All-OAC team.

Petrella joins senior All-American 125 pounder Jacob Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), senior All-American 133-pounder Jaden Hinton (Glassboro, N.J.), junior 157-pounder Tommy West (Avon Lake/St. Edward), freshman 165-pounder Andrew Supers (Medina), junior 184-pounder Carter Lloyd (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), senior Academic All-OAC 197-pounder Luke Hopkins (Cuyahoga Heights) and senior All-American 285-pounder Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) as first-team honorees.  Junior 174-pounder Donovan Palmer (North Ridgeville/Lutheran West) was named to the second team. 

Petrella, who is the defending NCAA Division III Champion, earns his first OAC Men's Wrestler of the Year award and his third straight first team selection.  This season, he is undefeated with a record of 34-0.  Petrella has tallied 13 pins, a career-best 13 technical falls and a career-high tying five major decisions.  He was a four-time invitational champion and was named the OAC Men's Wrestler of the Week on two occasions and the D3wrestle.com Wrestler of the Week on February 7.  In the last two seasons, Petrella is 67-0 and his last loss came in the 2022 149-pound championship match.   For his career, Petrella ranks tied for 11th on the all-time wins list with a record of 105-4.  He has recorded 40 pins, 21 technical falls and 15 major decisions.

Decatur, who is the 2023 NCAA Division III National Runner-Up and the 2022 National Champion, garners his third straight first team honor.  This season, he has a record of 22-2 with seven technical falls, two pins, and one major decision.  Decatur was a three-time invitational champion.  For his career, Decatur ranks 29th on the all-time wins list with a record of 82-5. He has tallied 20 technical falls, 12 major decisions and nine pins.

Hinton earns his first career first team accolade after being a second team selection last season.   This season, he has a record of 32-2 with a career-best 16 technical falls, seven major decisions and career-high three pins.  Hinton was a four-time invitational champion.  For his career, Hinton ranks 15th on the all-time wins list with a record of 97-17.  He has recorded 36 technical falls, 29 major decisions and six pins.

West garners his second straight first team selection.  This season, he has a record of 32-11 with 10 pins, a career-best nine technical falls and career-best six major decisions. He was the Mid-States Invitational Champion on February 17 and the OAC Men's Wrestler of the Week on February 19.  For his career, West ranks 30th on the all-time wins list with a record of 80-28.  He has tallied 28 pins, 14 technical falls and 11 major decisions. Off the mat, West is a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American, Dean's List student and Jacket Scholar. 

Supers earns his first career accolade.  This season, he has a record of 30-6 with nine technical falls, four pins and three major decisions.  Supers was a three-time invitational champion and was the OAC Men's Wrestler of the Week on February 6.

Lloyd garners his first career honor.  This season, he has a record of 29-6 with a career-bests in pins with seven, major decisions with four and technical falls with three.  Llyod was a three-time invitational champion and was the OAC Men's Wrestler of the Week on February 12. For his career, Lloyd has ranks tied for 47th on the all-time wins list with a record 67-29.  He has recorded 16 pins, seven technical falls and seven major decisions.

Hopkins earns his second straight accolade and his first team honor after being a second team selection last season.   This season, he has a record of 15-6 with a career-high five technical falls, two pins and one major decision.  For his career, Hopkins has a record of 41-25 with eight pins, eight technical falls and three major decisions. Off the mat, he is a three-time Academic All-OAC honoree, two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and a member of Member of Chi Alpha Sigma and Dayton C. Miller honoraries. 

Byrne garners his fourth career honor and his third straight first team selection.  This season, he has a record of 30-3 with 18 pins, career-best six major decisions and one technical fall.  Byrne was a two-time invitational champion and was the OAC Men's Wrestler of the Week on November 18.  For his career, Byrne ranks seventh on the all-time wins list with a record of 114-20.  He has tallied 67 pins, 17 major decisions and four technical falls.  Off the mat, Byrne is a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American. 

Palmer earns his first accolade.  This season, he has a record of 24-19 with career-high eight pins, career-best six technical falls and three major decisions.  For his career, Palmer has a record of 58-43 with 16 pins, 10 major decisions and eight technical falls.  Off the mat, he is a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American.

BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2 when they travel to Ada to compete in the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 11 a.m.

The NCAA Division III Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse will be contested on Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16 at the La Crosse Center.
