West Earns First Career OAC Men’s Wrestler of the Week Honor

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 157-pound men's wrestler Tommy West (Avon Lake/St. Edward) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his career.

West becomes the seventh BW men's wrestler to earn the weekly honor this season and the fourth to earn their first honor.   He brings home his weekly honor after winning the 157-pound title at the regular season finale Mid-State Invitational last Saturday. 

West opened the invitational with a 17-0 technical fall over Jason Rooney of Manchester (Ind.) University.  He then earned a 19-3 technical fall victory over Dominic Litchfield of Wabash (Ind.) College.  West picked up a win by pinfall in 2:51 over Austin Crowder of host Trine (Ind.) University. He then earned a 16-1 technical fall over Anthony Grecol of Heidelberg University.   West claimed the title with a pinfall in 3:11 over Tim Smith of Wabash (Ind.) College.

This season, he has a career-best 32 victories with11 losses.  West has recorded 10 pins, a career-high nine technical falls and a career-best six major decisions.

For his career, West ranks 30th on the school's all-time wins list a record of 71-35.  He has tallied 28 pins, 14 technical falls and 11 major decisions.

Off the mat, West is a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American, Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2 when they travel to Ada to compete in the NCAA Division III Central Regional Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center.   Wrestling begins each day at 11 a.m.

The NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships will be contested on Friday and Saturday, Match 15 and 16 at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
